Artist’s Journal: NUMBER 28
“…having thought it over,
I do not say that my work is good,
but the thing is
that I can do less bad stuff.
relations with people,
is very secondary,
because I haven’t the gift for that.
I can’t help that.”
Vincent van Gogh 1853 – 1890
Sometimes I wonder too about my work, my life and my self; not myself, my self.
What is my self? What is my being? What distinguishes me from anyone else? I’ve been reading Van Gogh: The Life by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith. I don’t know if it’s depressing me or, if I’m already depressed but I sure can empathize with Vincent as I’m sure many artists have and do.
Is it the impending holidays, aging and continual challenges and uncertainty? Popeye the Sailor said, “I yam what I yam and tha’s all what I yam.”
So be it – for now.Posted on: 21/12/2012, by : Ron Fortier
